This has been a year of change and momentum for QCOSS. Our role as a peak is to bring the community sector’s knowledge to the table, advocate for solutions, and support excellence in service delivery.
In 2024–25, we did exactly that.

The Queensland State Election in October 2024 shaped much of our activity. Through Town Halls, direct engagement with decision makers, and a strong presence in traditional media, QCOSS made sure the issues that matter to Queenslanders were an essential part of the public conversation. That momentum helped ensure the sector’s priorities were heard by all sides of politics. It underlined the value of a consistent, constructive voice.

Our advocacy focused on sector sustainability, cost of living, housing and homelessness, youth justice, the needs of families and children, women’s equality and human rights. Week by week, QCOSS walked the corridors of power and worked alongside members to turn evidence into policy proposals, and policy proposals into commitments. We saw encouraging movement on relief measures for low-income households, fairer renting conditions, and investment for frontline services and social and affordable housing. And QCOSS lobbied hard for indexation of funding for non-government organisations, which we saw delivered in the 2025-26 budget.

Another highlight of 2024-25 was QCOSS’ work on the first phase of the new independent Domestic and Family Violence peak body. This is a significant step forward for Queensland.

The Board’s focus has been on stewardship. We supported clear strategy, sound risk management, and careful financial oversight. We also prioritised building relationships with a new government, so the sector’s voice remains central in the next phase of reform. My thanks to Aimee McVeigh, as CEO and the QCOSS team for their professionalism and resolve, and to my Board colleagues for their wisdom and service.

QCOSS’ strength comes from our members. Thank you for your engagement, your evidence, your advocacy. Together, we continue to work toward a fairer Queensland.
